The sunshine is officially here, bringing the annual city-wide buzz along with it. Of course, Brighton is wonderful all year round, but something about it during the summertime just hits differently. It might be the way the sea glistens on the horizon, or the sound of chit-chat filling the still air, or maybe it's just the fact that a little drop of Vitamin D puts everyone in a good mood! If you're from around here, you probably know what we're talking about; however, if you're not, you should come and experience it for yourself.

In the spirit of making the most of this often fleeting season, we've taken it upon ourselves to create HOLD's Guide to Summertime in Brighton (2022 edition!)- a non-exhaustive list of places to inspire your seaside stint.

Kusaki

With interiors designed by Fabio Lauro, Kusaki transports you to the Far East with its bespoke murals and indoor cherry blossoms. Boasting an impressive plant-based menu, the food takes you on a culinary journey that explores Japan's botanical flavours. The desserts and cocktails in particular are *chefs kiss*!

Brighton Pride

Brighton is often dubbed the gay capital of the UK, so it'll come as no surprise that the Pride festivities have made their way onto this list. This annual event brings people together- it's a city-wide party, and everyone is invited! Expect live music, colourful parades, and lots of eye-catching ensembles.

Royal Pavilion

An iconic local landmark, the Royal Pavilion is a Grade I listed building, and if walls could talk, they would have plenty of stories to tell! Originally built as a seaside pleasure palace for King George IV, the Pavilion later served as a military hospital during World War I. It has since been fully restored to its former beauty and now boasts a wealth of pure luxury. Step inside and bask in the city's rich history.

Brighton Open Air Theatre

Pack a picnic and take in a show at the Open Air Theatre. Sunken into the green landscape of Dyke Road Park, this little oasis of culture is just 5 minutes away from the bustle of the city. From drag performances to Shakespeare, stand-up comedy to live jazz music, there's something for everyone to enjoy whilst soaking up some summer sun.

Snooper's Paradise

The name says it all with this one! Push your way through the infamous pink turnstiles and feast your eyes on the abundance of curiosities. Between the vintage signs, old photograph negatives and retro clothing, there's something interesting crammed into every corner of this place. You'll need to dedicate at least an hour to rummaging through their treasures.

The Beach

What is a trip to the seaside without actually going to the beach? Grab yourself some fresh doughnuts from the promenade and perch yourself along the pebbled shoreline - it's a fabulous spot for people-watching, and you might be lucky enough to catch the beautiful starling murmurations.
