Art prints are one of the quickest and easiest ways to bring character, colour, and personality into your home. They can also play a huge role in setting the scene for each room, subliminally dictating how people feel within and engage with a space.

It may feel daunting to begin with, especially when starting with a completely blank wall, but it's easy once you get the hang of things (if you'll excuse the pun!). Here's what you need to consider when choosing art for your home.

1. Find Your Style

Start with pieces that speak to you. Whether it's abstract art, photography, still lifes, or landscapes, your home should reflect your personal taste, not just trends. Your home is your sanctuary, so fill it with things that bring you joy! Don't worry about matching everything perfectly; prints that you genuinely love will always feel right.

Tip: Not sure what kind of style you like? Try making a mood board or collecting inspiration pictures on Pinterest. From there, you can identify the similarities between the ideas you've chosen.

2. Mix and Match with Intention

When selecting artworks that complement each other, consider the balance between them. Combine different sizes, styles, and colours, but keep something consistent, like a shared colour palette or matching frames, to tie it all together. It's also important to remember that not every artwork needs to make a statement, and not to be afraid to incorporate some 'filler' pieces that complement the rest of your chosen prints, rather than competing with them.

3. Play with Layouts

Picking a few large-scale statement pieces works great to ground a big space, whilst arranging a gallery wall can be great for isolating areas and creating cosy nooks. Considering what you want to achieve in your space will help determine the type of composition to pursue.

Take a picture of your space and upload it, along with images of your prints, to Photoshop, Canva, or any other editing software, so that you can experiment with sizes and layouts without the commitment.

Tip: If the Poster Club collection has caught your eye, you can use their interactive Art Wall Designer to create your perfect configuration.

4. Be Mindful with Framing

Choosing the right frame will make a big difference in how the overall look comes together. Opting for an oak frame will add a certain warmth and would look great with Scandi or farmhouse interiors that already incorporate other woody tones. Black frames, on the other hand, have a sleeker feel, making them well-suited for more modern or industrial spaces.

Feeling arty? Colourful frames are a great way to add some fun and personality. Pick either a complementary hue to create harmony or go bold with a contrasting colour to really make things pop!

5. Don't Be Afraid of Change

It can take some time to get used to the change, so don't worry if you're unsure about your new setup. Live with it for a few days and see how you feel before revising your creation. If you're still not sure, that's no problem! There's no shame in making changes and trying again- sometimes you need to make a few mistakes to find out what works best for you and your space. Get creative and have some fun!
