Japanese designer Masaru Suzuki views colour and pattern as more than decoration. He describes them as 'vitamins' for everyday life, bringing energy, emotion and a sense of attachment to the objects and spaces around us.
Originally drawn to graphic design, Suzuki discovered textiles and Scandinavian design while studying at university, setting him on a path that would take his work across textiles, graphics, objects and spaces. Here, he discusses his approach to colour and pattern, his fascination with vintage Marimekko, and how he balances bold decoration with simplicity.
