Very British Summers
A new exhibition at the Turner Contemporary explores the relationship between the British and our coastal towns. 'Seaside: Photographed' charts the highs lows and heydays of our seaside towns.

Lousy weather, cornets and drunken behaviour, our seasides are rich pickings for the photographer. 'Seaside: Photographed' charts the British experience of the seaside from the 1850s until the present day.

From day trippers to local residents, this exhibition features napping grandfathers to drunken teenagers and excited family groups. It charts the changes these towns have undergone as both holiday destinations and places to live and work. One thing will never change, us brits do love to be beside the seaside.
The exhibition features photography from Martin Parr, Cartier Bresson and Ingrid Pollard as well as talented unknowns and runs until 8th September 2019.
